Sugarfire Smoke House
Green Olive Media has been proud to assist with the expansion and franchising of Mike Johnson’s barbecue empire, Sugarfire Smoke House. In June 2018, the award-winning que successfully opened its fourth location of the year in colorful Colorado, making it Sugarfire’s tenth location! This year, the team has continued to grow across the state of Missouri and expanded to Indianapolis, In. and O’Fallon, Il.
Green Olive Media has had the pleasure of working with Juniper’s owner and chef John Perkins to execute a series of pop-ups for his forthcoming breakfast joint, Little Bird. Three strong pop-ups in St. Louis’ Central West End, multiple live morning segments, and traditional press have brought great awareness to Juniper’s “little sister.”

The general store opened with success and serves to continue the traditions of the family business.
Green Olive Media is excited to be teaming up once again with celebrated World Champion Pitmaster Tuffy Stone.

Full of expert advice from a 5-time World Champion, Cool Smoke is poised to become the ultimate handbook for both backyard barbecuers and competition cooks who want to get inside the mind of a master. The book is a distillation of years of experience and wisdom including information on smokers, hints for taking on the competition circuit, and, of course, more than 100 original recipes showcasing the best of barbecue and some unexpected recipes honed over years in a French kitchen. When he’s not authoring books and winning barbecue championships, Tuffy owns and operates one of Virginia’s most successful catering and events companies, A Sharper Palate, with his wife, Leslie and is a partner in three locations of Q BBQ in Richmond. For more information on Tuffy please visit www.coolsmokebarbeque.com or follow Tuffy on Instagram and Twitter @TuffyStone.
We have the pleasure of representing Chef Eddie Hernandez’s newly released cookbook – Turnip Greens & Tortillas.
Chef Eddie is the executive chef of longtime client Taqueria del Sol and a close friend of the company. The book highlights the fast-casual food of Taqueria del Sol guests have all come to know and love and lands on the commonalities of Southern and Mexican food, with dishes like Memphis barbecue pork tacos, chicken pot pie served in a “bowl” of a puffed tortilla, turnip greens in “pot likker” spiked with chiles, and the “Eddie Palmer,” sweet tea with a jab of tequila. Throughout the book, Eddie never hesitates to break with purists to make food taste better, adding sugar to creamy grits to balance the jalapeños, or substituting tomatillos in fried green tomatoes for a more delicate texture. Turnip Greens & Tortillas has received rave reviews and we could not be prouder of Chef Eddie and Taqueria del Sol. Books are available here.

GOM Welcomes Sophia Marchese to the GOM Family as a Spring 2018 PR Intern!
Sophia Marie Marchese grew up in the South and has embraced Atlanta’s urban land of limitless possibility since the humble age of six. She lives in Candler Park with her beau and her two (fur) babies, Wilson and Biscuits, and is currently finishing her final semester at Georgia State. It was here that she diligently spent her college career building a personal brand as a communications professional. During these primitive years—surrounded by the city’s rich culture—she established herself as a writer and a public relations practitioner through experiences as a journalist, editor and junior publicist. In doing so, she fueled her appreciation for words and an existing passion for representing creative individuals. Thrilled for the opportunity to combine these traits with her deep love for food, Sophia welcomes her time with Green Olive Media whole-heartedly! Thanks to her perpetual case of wanderlust, when Sophia isn’t working to grow professionally, she is most likely growing her ambitious travel bucket list around the world.
GOM Welcomes Mary Thomas to the GOM Family as a Spring 2018 PR Intern!
Having grown up in Atlanta, Mary was consistently surrounded by good food and drink spots, so it’s no wonder she ended up following her love of the industry into her career. After graduating Georgia College with a communications degree in May 2016, she worked as a Marketing Intern at King of Pops in Atlanta. Her love of cultivating and marketing a brand transitioned into her last year and a half spent as the Marketing Director at Chick-fil-A in Milledgeville, Georgia. Mary joined Green Olive Media in February 2018, and is excited to further her knowledge of local food and beverage joints in her hometown! Outside of work, you’ll probably find Mary either petting her dogs, Hallie and Patsy, eating a burrito, or painting watercolors (of Hallie and Patsy…).

Green Olive Media is excited to announce we are now representing Blue Oak BBQ.
Blue Oak BBQ is brought to you by New Orleans-natives Ronnie Evans and Philip Moseley, who set out to become New Orleans' foremost purveyors of fine smoked meats and savory sauces. The duo formed Blue Oak in 2012 when Evans and Moseley decided to start smoking meats in a small pop-up inside of the Uptown New Orleans dive bar, Grits. While at Grits, Evans and Moseley gained a cult following for their late-night bar fare and barbecue. In 2014, the duo expanded and transitioned to a new location inside Chickie Wah-Wah where they served full time and focused on developing and perfecting their barbecue. Four years and thousands of pounds of meats later, the duo graduated to their own brick-and-mortar location in 2016 at 900 N. Carrollton Ave in Mid-City. Since opening, the duo has made a name for themselves serving up some of the city’s finest smoked meats, sides and sandwiches. Now, with a Hogs for the Cause Championship under their belts, the Blue Oak team continues to pave the way for carnivorous excellence in New Orleans. Visit their website for more here.
Green Olive Media is proud to lend a hand on the design and branding of City Pharmacy.
The Green Olive design team is excited to share our branding work and recent website launch for City Pharmacy, now open on Covington's historic downtown square. The distinctive chef-driven concept is situated in a family-owned drugstore dating back to the 1920s, continuing the tradition of being a place known for pleasant company and conversation. The renovated historical space pays homage to its former life, yet serves as an iconic addition to Covington’s landscape today. Guests can expect a darn good, inventive spin on traditional dishes and classic cocktails. Our intention was to pay the same respect to the behind-the-scenes history, while communicating a fresh personality appealing to (and much desired by) the local community. Thoughtful and deliberate messaging and aesthetic choices can be seen in a wide array of touchpoints, including logo design, menus, signage, website and oodles of other fun stuff ranging from business cards to matchboxes, coasters to appliqué hats, screenprinted tees to gift cards. Don’t miss the 44 ft. mural we designed for the north side of the building; it was a blast to bring to life on such a grand scale, and is sure to remain the best location for a selfie on the square! Green Olive Media is proud to represent Better Half & the talented Chef Zach Meloy
Chef Zach Meloy
With an upbringing that placed a heavy emphasis on food – from family vacations, to summer camps, to mornings at the DMV, Zachary Meloy always made a mental note of what he’d eaten each day as a child. While attending Johnson & Wales in Denver, Zach worked with award-winning chef Frank Stitt at Bottega, and ultimately landed on a culinary career after graduating with degrees in both Spanish and ceramics. Zach then spent close to five years living, traveling, eating, and studying in Central America. Seeing the shared ingredients he’d once thought specific to his home in the South, he became fascinated with the natural overlaps between the Latin and Southern American kitchens.
GOM is excited to bring on Torched Hop Brewing Co. as a PR client!
After working alongside chefs Kevin Taylor and Sean Yontz in Denver, and Gerry Klaskala and Jay Swift in Atlanta, Zach successfully established his own style of cooking that can be traced back to his roots in Southern and Latin cuisine, while elevating them with creative flavor combinations and expressive presentations. In 2011, in an effort to build a groundswell behind their own food, he and his wife Cristina started PushStart Kitchen, an underground supper club, in a rented art studio at the Goat Farm in Atlanta. In the space, tucked away in a 130 year old factory, they served private, prix fixe meals to members of their modern speakeasy focusing on their favorite elements of their Latin-Southern cuisine. During their almost three years in business, PushStart Kitchen garnered local, regional and national recognition, a membership list of over 5,200 members and had been featured on several television programs including TBS’ program Trends With Benefits and Food Network’s Chopped. After feeding 100+ guests per week through the supper club, they decided to bring their passion to a new brick and mortar space, and Better Half was born. Now, Better Half continues to focus on the blurring of lines between cultures while providing a creative menu in an intimate and casual space.
When Zach and Cristina Meloy started an intimate supper club at Atlanta’s Goat Farm in 2011, the couple served private, prix fixe meals to members of their modern speakeasy with a focus on their favorite elements of Latin-Southern cuisine. From there, their brick-and-mortar restaurant Better Half was born as a place where family and building connection through food is at the core mission. Chef Zach’s ever-changing, seasonal menu reflects the couple’s love for food and family through the best products the South has to offer. For more information on Better Half, please call 404-695-4547 or visit www.BetterHalfATL.com. Located at 349 14th St. (Building C-100) in Atlanta, Better Half is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and serves Sunday Brunch from11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Connect with Better Half on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

Chicken+Beer (Atlanta, GA)
Jackmont Hospitality, Inc., in partnership with notable entertainer and restaurateur Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, reveals Chicken+Beer, named for Ludacris’ third album, at Concourse D of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The 90-seat restaurant is Jackmont Hospitality, Inc.’s second independently developed concept at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport following One Flew South which opened nearly a decade ago and became the first airport restaurant in the U.S. to be a contender for the prestigious James Beard Award.
Chicken+Beer serves Southern-style comfort food and locally sourced beers parallel an ambient cool vibe from the playlist to the bold wall art. Boasting reimagined classics like the Battered Catfish with Corn Edamame Succotash and Parsnip Puree, and Luda’s Chicken and Pecan Waffles with whiskey maple syrup and andouille sausage, the menu integrates lesser used staples of the traditional Southern catalogue such as Stout Braised Beef Cheeks with sweet potato mash. The beer selection spotlights an array of local varieties including those from local favorites Sweetwater and Terrapin as well as styles from up-and-coming craft breweries Monday Night Brewing, Creature Comfort, Orpheus and Reformation.
GOM was also thrilled to assist with the Chicken+Beer branding and visuals. Everything from logo design to large-scale environmental treatments were developed to speak to the cultural and social landscape of today’s South. Using the aesthetics of a traditional meat-and-three as the foundation for inspiration, the Green Olive design team worked to provide a fresh, clean, and contemporary interpretation of Southern dining culture in a casual and approachable way. The visuals reference hand-painted signage, often for local businesses, seen historically throughout Atlanta and the region.

Chef Deborah VanTrece
Green Olive Media is thrilled to be working with the talented Chef Deborah VanTrece. Well-known for her gourmet catering in the Atlanta area, chef VanTrece began her culinary career in 1994 when she graduated as the valedictorian of her class at the Art Institute. Working as an executive chef for a catering company by 1996, chef VanTrece enjoyed great success during the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta. She was hired to cook for many foreign dignitaries and international executives, and won acclaim for her mastery of imported cooking techniques and delicious globally-informed cuisine. After the Olympics, chef VanTrece opened Edible Art, a small restaurant and catering operation. Edible Art was a hit and helped to put the East Atlanta neighborhood on the map, laying the groundwork for the cultural epicenter that it’s become today. At a time when fusion restaurants and apple-tinis were all the rage, chef VanTrece was lifted up as a champion of great food with a clear vision. Her thoughtful take on soul food was a fresh reminder of the virtues of purity in cooking and eating.
At Twisted Soul, chef VanTrece has revived and updated the soul food principles she established at Edible Art. What chef VanTrece continues to serve is the concept of global soul food; the soul food of different cultures around the globe as she has experienced them. Since opening in late 2014, Twisted Soul was voted best new restaurant in Atlanta by the Georgia Voice, ranked among the best new openings in Atlanta by Thrilist and has been rated by Zagat. Chef VanTrece was featured twice on NBC’s Food Fighters in the summer of 2015, winning each of her challenges. Her recipes have been featured in the American Cuisine Cook Book, and she continues her catering business with a list of distinctive clients such as Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead, the government of Fulton County, Alston & Bird and the Bureau of Cultural Affairs. Chef VanTrece has honed her skills over the course of a 25 year career, but her passion for food and feeding people has always been a foundational piece of her life.

Laura joined the design team at Green Olive Media in 2013 and perfected the art of designing with snakes, guns and hissing cats while working on the graphics for Ford Fry's newest tex-mex restaurant ventures, The El Felix and Superica. She regularly works on menus, websites and collateral for the hotel and restaurant industry and has more recently produced collateral for Loews Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton Hotels as well as many restaurants in Atlanta, Dallas and Nashville. The restaurant industry is as fast-paced as Laura, and has been an exciting shift in her career. Prior to joining Green Olive, Laura received a Bachelor's of Journalism as well as a Bachelor of the Arts in Graphic design at University of Missouri, and shortly thereafter moved to Atlanta to join the team at Paste Magazine.
